Long Live Barry G!

Before I bring you some much needed amusement, a little report on Saturday's tournament:

I played like a donk, I busted early like a donk...

Now on with the good stuff!
A few weeks/months ago, professional player Barry Greenstein was asked by the 2+2 community if he would say the famous words "lol donkaments" on national television. He finally took the offer if the 2+2'ers (the biggest online poker community) would pay $10,000 to his charity. Agreements were made and yesterday, during High Stakes Poker, the following occured:

We can now officially conclude that Barry Greenstein is a God amongst men!

Bad Beat Week Beaten...

Pictures speak so much more than words:

Yes, dear readers, I've won my first tournament of the year, my 5th in my online career. This was a 180-players qualifier to the 2nd Qualifying Round for a seat at NBC's Poker After Dark television program. Top 2 qualified to the next tournament, which will be played on Saturday 24th February @ 8.05PM GMT (sweating me is much appreciated). Top 9 in the 2nd Round qualify for the Final Super Satellite where the winner gets a seat amongst 5 poker pros to play for $ 120k in Las Vegas. Wish me luck!

(btw I'll be recording my progress in the 2nd Qualifier and post asap on the blog)

The following is a guide to my tournament win including all the hands I played and my point of view concerning some plays as well as some strategy tips:

lol razzaments...?

Since a week or two I have an account on Full Tilt, just to learn, chat and play with the pros (they should really make that their slogan...). Really good site with good tournament structures and the chance to see real life/online pros take eachother on at the high stakes cashgames. One side effect. Tiny, fluffy one: Full Tilt caused me to get addicted to Razz.

Explaining the game of Razz is like explaining the Theory of Relativity to a German Sheperd while having an exhausting discussion about "why in Heaven's name that damn chicken crossed the road" with a 3-year old toddler.
Yes. It's that hard. No kidding.
Razz is the evil twin of 7-card stud. It's the retarded child in the poker family: difficult to play with, difficult not to laugh at it. And still I wake up at 3AM to play yet another Razz freeroll (yeah, like I'm paying money to play a game that drives me crazy).

But, kind Sir, you might ask me now: how do we play it, so I can overwhelm my friends with my knowledge of yet another poker game? Easy... *cough*:
The games starts with dealing out 3 cards to the players, two down and one open and visible for all the other players. A round of betting follows. Now three more open cards follow with a round of betting after each dealt card. The last two cards dealt are down cards and yet again have a round of betting after each. If the two biggest idiots or drunk people are still in this hand, they now have to show their 7 cards and the best combination of 5 cards wins.
"Yeah, but Taj, that's 7-card stud! lolzorz!!!11elevenish. What's the big deal?"
Simple: flushes and straights don't count, Ace is always low and the lowest hand wins, making 5-4-3-2-A the lock hand. Yes, ladies and gents, I lol'ed as well when I first read this on the Almighty Wikipedia site, 10 minutes before I entered my first ever Razz tournament...

Still, the sillyness of this poker form makes for great fun, especially when other players are actually taking this game or a $100 freeroll serious. It makes up for the sleepless nights and going bust early on (though my game is improving). Fun assured.

William Lawsons payed our homegame a visit

A nice and fuzzy hello to all of you!

As the title says, we had a homegame going on just today (Friday 16th) which, if I may say so, turned out nice for me with a 2nd place in the main event, after an early bust out in the pre-game event (was more concentrated on an online tournament I was planning to play between both live games). Very nice and all, if it weren't for the post-game event. A 3-handed game between me, Kristof (my sister's boyfriend) and Niels (my younger brother). We were the only ones left, brought on the alcohol (wodka, whisky etc.) and played for fun and honour. Now comes the twist to this story: we voice-recorded this session...

Might I warn you that the poker on this recording, from my part, was mostly inspired by the alcohol. Another warning: never, ever play poker for money when you're drunk. 'Nuff said...
Highlights of this recording: a brilliantly played quad Jacks by Kristof and my reaction to it + me playing the final heads up in a drunken state of being.

Although the quality isn't premium, I do hope you enjoy this:

Expect me to comment on my online tournies and SnG's and some of our future homegames, for your listening pleasure!

In the very Beginning...

Before I commence my first post in this blog, I'd like to quote J_Verschueren (pokerclub.be member), who said the following after the 4th PCB December Challenge tourny (which yours truly won, of course):

"Tajike speelde heel sterk en verdient dan ook van gewonnen te
hebben."

"Tajike played really strong and deserved to have
won."

Except the fact that I'm gifted with overwhelming looks, there is little that some of you might know about me and my poker playing. Thus be pleased by the fact that a curriculum will follow in this first post!

Name:
Kris Davus (aka Tajike)

Poker resolutions for 2007?
* Try to resume to play with the same consistency as the last couple of months
* Specialize myself in full table SnG's
* Equal or improve the 4 tournament wins of last year
* Play a medium/big national or international tournament

Well?
* Because of school I only started the year in February: first MTT result of the year was 18th place in a 400+ player field. Consistency is bliss...
* Don't like full table SnG's, played 3 of them though in the last 2 weeks: 1 x 3th, 2 x 2nd.
* No big tournament win yet...
* I'm playing in the € 65 buy-in Flemish Poker Challenge Qualifier on April 1st @ Casino Kursaal Oostende. Top x players get a seat in the Final Tournament (€ 500 buy-in & + € 10 000 for the winner)

Favourite players:
Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, Prahlad Friedman, Phil Ivey

Favourite hand:
Just like the blog title: 62 offsuit (cracked AA with them once, my lucky cards since then)

Favourite poker shows:
High Stakes Poker & Poker After Dark

Bankroll:
Four digits, that's all I have to say

Bad Beat story:
Losing 3 times on the same day in 3 different tournaments (2 homegames & 1 online) with QQ vs a Straight on the turn, made with crappy hole cards (75o, T9o & K7o)

Best moment in poker:
Final table at Poker 4 Charity: it's a fantastic feeling to play at the final table of your first live tournament in front of a decent crowd.

So now you know something more about me. Join me next time when we go a bit deeper into my poker world!
